Dr. Richard Cooper

Dr Richard Cooper is a Specialist Anaesthetist and Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.

He graduated from the University of Auckland medical school having won the Senior Prize for Batchelor of Human Biology and having been recognised for achieving an A+ average in final exams.

Richard has worked in a number of hospitals across New Zealand and Australia while undertaking anaesthetic specialist training, gaining broad experience including in Paediatrics, Obstetrics, Bariatrics (obesity surgery), ENT, Ophthalmology, and Ultrasound and Regional Anaesthesia.

Currently he divides his time between private practice at The Mater Hospital and public practice at Mackay Base Hospital.

At The Mater Richard serves on the hospital Clinical Review Committee and is involved in teaching medical students and nurses.

At MBH Richard is the Supervisor of Training for Interns and Residents in Anaesthesia, Administrator for Anaesthetic Incident Reporting for the Australian and New Zealand Tripartite Anaesthetic Data Committee, is responsible for reporting to the Queensland Peri-operative and Peri-procedural Anaesthetic Mortality Review Committee, and has trained as a surveyor for the Queensland Pre-vocational Medical Accreditation Authority.

Richard has an active interest in research and has been involved in a number of international and Australasian studies in anaesthesia.

Outside of work Richard is kept busy looking after his young family and enjoying Mackays great beaches.
